Healing (Get Well) Crises

Transitioning from Illness to Wellness

A healing crisis is the result of the body working to eliminate waste products through all elimination channels and to set the stage for regeneration. The end result: old tissues are replaced with new ones. When any treatment or cleansing program causes a large scale die-off of microbes, a significant amount of wastes are released into the body. The more microbes present, and the stronger their endotoxins, the stronger the cleansing reaction. When any treatment or de-tox causes the organs of the body to release their stored poisons and toxins, particularly the liver, which is a storehouse of drug and poison residues, a cleansing reaction usually take place. Any program, such as fasting, which causes a rapid deterioration of fat cells (which are a storehouse for toxins), can cause a get-well crisis as toxins previously lodged in the fat cells are released.

One crisis is not always enough for a complete cure. The person in a chronic "locked" disease state will often have to go through cycles of healing crises, with each one improving the condition some. It has taken time to develop a chronically-diseased state, and time is required to let go of the "locked" energy, piece by piece. It's like peeling the layers off an onion. With a more serious condition, there may be many small crises to go through before the system can become healthily balanced.

The Philosophy of Get-Well Crises
This philosophy of natural healing requires crises to occur before true healing can take place. This is anti-ethical to orthodox approaches to healing that have a drug for every crisis. In mainstream medicine, it is assumed that a patient who is free of disease symptoms is more or less healthy. The aim of drugs is to achieve this condition by removing disagreeable symptoms.

The philosophy of the get-well crises is likened to ”Herring’s Law of Cure”, which states that "All cure starts from within out, from the head down and in reverse order as the symptoms have appeared." Dr. John Whitman Ray has developed a method specifically designed to help us travel the long road to superior health. He calls it body electronics, using nutrition as well as press point therapy to facilitate emotional release and expansion of consciousness. Out of this work Dr. Ray found it necessary to modify Herring’s Law to the following:

Electrolyte and/or mineral loss are often associated with detoxification that precedes healing crises. In this case muscle cramps . To rectify this we recommend use of plant derived minerals

All natural health treatments, whether they involve dietary changes, vitamin or herbal supplementation, detoxification therapies, or bodywork, focus on removing the disease causing agents using the body's own power of healing. This process often brings on an unpleasant reaction known as the 'healing crisis'. Unlike a disease crisis (illness) the healing crisis is a sign of improving health. In this book, you will learn how to distinguish between a healing crisis and a disease crisis. You will learn how healing works, what to do, and what not to do to facilitate healing, and how to cope with unpleasant symptoms until the crisis is over. If you undergo any type of natural healing program, you must be well informed about the symptoms and processes of the healing crisis. The book will guide you through the natural healing process.Moore

This book offers the educator and the practitioner training methods, exercises, and intervention techniques applicable to the gamut of experiences that we currently encounter. It also will introduce readers to newer concepts and their applications such as role play, spirituality, the role of animals in healing, and the concept of forgiveness. Throughout the book, whether it is in those who represent the highly resilient or those who continue to struggle, a strengths perspective is emphasized. Finally, this book describes the "Phoenix Phenomenon", a concept I developed during the course of my teaching and practice, which articulates and illustrates an inherent ability to use resilience in the process of converting pain into growth. Moore

LAW OF HEALING CRISIS
A get-well crisis will occur only when an individual is ready both mentally and physically. A get-well crisis will begin from inside out, in opposite order, chronologically, as to how the symptoms appeared and commensurate with the severity of the trauma. The individual will have the opportunity to re-experience each trauma— physiological and psychological— beginning with the trauma of least severity. It must be recognised that traumas involving emotions, which include all traumas, will be released in order, beginning with unconsciousness, then apathy, grief, fear, anger, pain, and eventually enthusiasm (love), in conjunction with the appropriate words for each emotion and thought pattern (sensory memory) which are accessible at each level. Unconditional love and unconditional forgiveness are the keys to applying and transmuting resistance at any level, once these resistances are brought to view through the application of the laws of love, light, and perfection.

With this definition Dr. Ray emphasises the importance of the psychosomatic side of our health problems. Each disease, accident, or surgical intervention contains a strong emotional component which needs to be re-experienced during a reaction, otherwise the healing will remain incomplete and the problem will present itself again at a later time for healing at a deeper level. This also means that the body selects the kind of healing crisis that is most appropriate at the time, taking into consideration its needs and abilities to have a certain area healed or improved. We can consciously influence this choice by working on a particular problem. The body also tries to select a perfect timing, which does not disable us during important events coming up.  We are guided on our healing path by our inner intelligence, which has our best interest at heart, and which chooses the best time to express a get well crisis. In the beginning, our healing reactions will be mainly on the physical or biological level, but, more and more, we will experience the release of emotional blocks and changes in consciousness, preparing us for greater activity on the spiritual level.

The body has an innate desire for normal health. We have the capacity to earn our way back to normal health no matter how bad our current situation is that state, no matter how “normal” or bad our health is now. But, to get from illness to wellness the body must go through a transition process referred to as an elimination phase of healing. This elimination process is often referred to as the “healing crisis” or the “get-well crisis.” This is primarily a cleansing reaction like the discomfort encountered when using an antiseptic to fumigate the house. While the fumigation process may be uncomfortable, the ensuring cleanliness is otherwise rewarding. Once the healing crisis starts, reactions may be mild or severe. Expect ups and downs as it takes awhile to get good health back.

Studies show that when patients engage in some manner of systemic waste removal one of the first manifestations exhibited is a revisiting of the same symptoms formerly present when a patient had a specific ailment in the past. Also known as the “Herxheimer Reaction”, this reaction occurs when the body tries to eliminate toxins at a faster rate than they can be properly disposed of. The more toxic and sick we are, the more severe the get-well or healing crisis. It is characterized by a temporary increase in symptoms during the cleansing or de-tox process which may be mild or severe. You may feel worse and therefore conclude that the treatment is not working. But, these reactions are signs that the treatment is working and that your body is going through the process of cleaning itself of impurities, toxins, and imbalances.

During a disease crisis, the body usually has great difficulty expelling toxic waste. The accumulation of this morbid matter throughout the body leads from acute to sub-acute tissue inflammation. If the condition is left unchecked, the sub-acute symptoms can deteriorate to chronic or degenerative disease. During the disease-reversal process that eventually results in a healing crisis, the body experiences many of the same symptoms present during a disease crisis. These symptoms generally last no longer than a few days, and all of the body’s channels of waste elimination work very hard to expel toxic waste, particularly fecal matter, urine, and catarrh. Sometimes, discomfort during the healing crisis is of greater intensity than when you were developing the chronic disease. This may explain why there may be a brief flare-up in one's condition. Often, the crisis will come after you feel your very best. Most people feel somewhat ill during the first few days of a cleanse because it is at that point that your body dumps toxins into the blood stream for elimination. With a more serious condition, there may be many small crises to go through before the final one occurs. In any case, a cleansing and purifying process is underway, and stored wastes are in a free-flowing state.

Healing crises are made fifty times worse in enzyme-deficient individual. Avoid carbonated drinks and fluoridated or chlorinated water during detoxification and healing crises because they destroy enzymes.  Carbonated drinks are high in phosphorus that leaches needed calcium out of the body. The digestion of meat uses lots of calcium, minerals, and enzymest. Other substances that hinder enzymes are antibiotics taken for illness, any food treated with pesticides, any animal given antibiotics, and alcohol. Individuals who have had radiation or chemotherapy, are low in enzymes, too, and require lots of natural supplementation with enzymes.

How do I Differentiate between Healing crises and Actual Disease Crises?

The famous nutritionist Dr. Bernard Jensen lists these ways to differentiate between healing crises and an actual diseases crisis:
• A healing crisis is accompanied by elimination, as the body is actively releasing wastes that include chemicals and drugs, which manifests as acute conditions of the underlining illness.
• Organ breakdown and dysfunction are not accompanied by increased elimination of wastes.
• Before and during healing crises, eliminative channels work well as they respond to the exit of wastes from the body. In disease crises, elimination does not work well before the crises and may worsen or stop during the crises.
• During healing crises, stored mucous, catarrh, and other wastes become less solid as they are thrown out of the body during purification. In disease crises, catarrh is not eliminated and mucus is old, thick, chronic, and congestive.

When do Healing Crises Occur?
Healing crises often come suddenly when we think we have overcome our health issues. They manifest themselves after the old tissues have been exchanged with the newer ones and there is enough energy to complete the exchange and elimination of the old tissues. They come on when the body has sufficient strength to violently rid itself of the old wastes, says Dr. Jensen. He indicates that organ regeneration passes through three phases, namely, elimination, transition, and re-building. The healing crisis occurs at the end of the transitional stage when the new tissues have matured enough to take on the function of a more healthy body.

Healing crises also occur during fasting, use of antibiotic herbs, chelating agents, juicing, and any detoxification program. The separation and eliminations of toxins ultimately establishes new standards for our homeostasis. Our body’s resistance to this change is evidenced by Herxheimer reactions. This is a time when the body is doing its housecleaning of impurities and toxins as it approach homeostasis. The body is releasing accumulated toxins that have been stored in the body for a long time, probably since childhood. The body is also releasing more toxins than it can handle through the blood stream and its eliminative channels.  Individuals with stronger constitutions experience fewer crises while those with weaker constitutions experience more. The more toxic an individual is, the more severe the crises.

Orthodox practitioners suppress these crises with drugs, while alternative practitioners depend upon and look for them as the astrologer looks at the stars. Conventional suppression of healing crises makes the ordinary experience of life a diagnosis which makes patients out of healthy people. Like going through the dark nights of the soul, the following symptoms can be expected:
• temporary exacerbation of the disease symptoms that may be identical to the disease itself
• worse feelings that make one feel that the remedy is not working, whereas they indicate that the treatment is actually working
• healing reactions that last from a few days to several weeks
• a discomfort discovered during healing crises that is greater than the chronic diseases itself, depending on the level of individual toxicity

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HEALING CRISIS AND ILLNESS?
There are symptoms during a healing crisis that may be confused with illness but the difference is that these symptoms are short in duration and move from one part of the body to another, from inside out and from top to bottom. There is usually a lack of appetite and may be a fever. Illness is a very different scenario where one or more of the organs are not working well, causing toxic build up of waste material that can't get out. There is fear during illness, a feeling of being out of control as opposed to the prevailing feeling during a healing crisis that underneath all the symptomology everything is working just the way it should and everything is really OK. The reversal process is another part of the healing crisis. It is necessary to revisit each step the body has been through that brought it to its current state of dis-ease. People learn from an early age that symptoms are bad and should be stopped or suppressed.   Hering’s Law of Cure - Healing occurs in a consistent pattern

Healing Crisis By Dr Stanley Bass, N.D. D.C. Ph.D.

If I were asked which is the greatest misunderstanding and confusion in the field of nutrition, I would respond, "to properly understand and interpret the symptoms and changes that follow the beginnings of a better nutritional program - (A healing crisis)"

Now, what happens when a person follows the rules and makes a decided improvement in the quality of food consumed? Remarkable things begin to happen to the body as well as the mind. The amazing intelligence present in every cell of the body and the wisdom of the body in its operation immediately becomes manifest. The rule may be stated thus: When the quality of food coming into the body is of higher quality than the tissue that the body is made of, the body begins to discard the lower grade materials and tissues and makes room for the superior materials that make new and healthier tissue.

What are the symptoms or signs that become evident when we first begin to omit the lower grade food and instead introduce superior foods-those that are more alive, more natural than those we are accustomed to? When the use of toxic stimulants such as coffee, tea, chocolate or cocoa is suddenly stopped, headaches are common, and a letdown (healing crisis) occurs. This is due to the discard by the body, of toxins called caffeine and theobromine, which are removed from the tissues and transported through the blood stream during its many bodily rounds. Before the toxins agents reach their final destination for elimination, these irritants register in our consciousness as pain-in other words, headache.

The letdown is due to the slower action of the heart - the resting phase that follows the stimulation of more rapid heart action forced on the body by certain poisons called stimulants. The more rapid heartbeat (or pulse) produces a feeling of exhilaration, and the slower action produces a depressed state of mind. Usually, within three days, the symptoms vanish and we feel stronger due to the recuperation that follows. To a lesser extent, the same process occurs when we abandon lower quality foods and replace them with better foods. Lower quality foods have undergone more preparation.

Spices, salt and other ingredients have been added, and they tend to be more stimulating than less prepared and more natural foods. Animal food, such as meat, fowl, fish etc, is more stimulating than cheeses, nuts and vegetable proteins. Consequently the withdrawal of stimulation, which follows the abandonment of animal food produces a slower heart action, a resting phase that registers to the mind as relaxation or a decrease in energy.

This initial letdown (healing crisis) lasts about ten days or slightly longer, and is followed by an increase of strength, a feeling of diminishing stress and great well-being. Now, let us return to the symptoms that occur in the process of regeneration. The person who starts a better diet, stays on it for three days to a week and then quits, will say, "Oh, I felt better on the old diet - the new one makes me feel weak". He failed because he did not give his body a chance to adjust and complete its first phase of action, recuperation. If he had waited a while longer, he would have begun to feel better than before he started.

During this initial phase (lasting about ten days on the average, to several weeks in others), the vital energies that are usually in the periphery or external parts of the body, such as the muscles and skin, begin to move to the vital internal organs and start reconstruction. This shunting of much of the power to the internal region produces a feeling of less energy in the muscles, which the mind interprets as some weakness. Actually power is increased, but most of it is being used for rebuilding the more important organs, and less of it is available for muscular work. Any weakness that is felt here is not a true weakness, but merely a redeployment of forces to the more important internal parts.

Here it is important for the person to stop wasting energy, and rest and sleep more. This is a crucial phase, and if the person resorts to stimulants of any kind, he will abort and defeat the regeneration intent of the body. It is important that he have patience and just wait it out and after awhile he will get an increasing strength that will exceed what he felt before he began the new program. Success in recovery or improvement of health hinges upon the correct understanding of this point - realizing that the body is using its main energies in more important internal work and not wasting it in external work involving muscle movements. Be wise - take it easy and relax. Just coast in your work and social obligations until you are out of the woods.

As one continues on the improved diet and gradually raises the food quality, interesting symptoms begin to appear. The body begins a process called "retracing". The cellular intelligence reasons something like this "Oh! Look at all those fine materials coming in. How wonderful - now we have a chance to get rid of this old garbage and build a beautiful new house. Let us get started immediately. Let us get this excess bile out of the liver and gall bladder and send it to the intestines for elimination. Let us get this sludge moving out of the arteries, veins and capillaries. These smelly, gassy, brain-stupefying masses have been here too long- out with them! These arthritic deposits on the joints need cleaning up. Let us get these irritating food preservatives such as aspirins, sleeping pills and drugs out of the way, along with these other masses of fat that have made life so burdensome for us for so long."

During the first phase of the healing crisis (called catabolism), the accent is on elimination or breaking down of tissue. The body begins to clean house - in short, to remove the garbage deposited in all the tissues. Wastes are discarded more rapidly and new tissue is made from the new food. This becomes evident as weight loss. This persists for a while then is followed by the second phase-stabilization.

Here the weight remains more or less stable. During this phase, the amount of waste material being discarded daily is equal to the amount of tissue that is being formed and replaced by the newer, more vital food. This occurs after the excess of obstructing material in the tissues has been removed. This stage persists for a while and is then followed by a third phase - a build up period (called anabolism), wherein weight starts to go even though the diet is lower in calories than it was before. At this point, much or more of the interfering wastes have been discarded.

Returning to the symptoms that occur on a superior nutritional program - people who have had tendencies in the past to recurring skin rashes or eruptions will frequently tend to eliminate poisons and harmful drugs through the skin with new rashes and eruptions. If they go to a doctor now who is not familiar with this aspect of nutrition, he will diagnose it as an allergy. They ask, "How come I am eating better than I ever did before and instead I'm getting worse?" They don't understand that the body is "retracing" The skin is getting more alive and active. It is throwing out more poisons more rapidly.

Headaches may occur at the beginning, fever and/or colds may also appear, the skin may break out, there may be a short interval of bowel sluggishness, diarrhea, feeling of tiredness and weakness, disinclination to exercise, nervousness, irritability, negativity, mental depression, frequent urination, etc.

However the great majority of people find their reactions tolerable and are encouraged to bear with them. With some, colds that have not appeared for a long time may occur, or even fevers. Understand that these actions are constructive, even though unpleasant at the moment. Do not try to stop these symptoms by the use of certain drugs. These symptoms are part of a curing process; so don't try to cure a cure. These are NOT deficiency problems or allergic manifestations.

The symptoms will vary according to the material being discarded, the condition of the organs involved in the elimination, and the amount of energy you have available. The more you rest and sleep when the symptoms are present, the milder they are and the more quickly they are terminated. Be happy you are having symptoms. Realized deeply that your body is becoming younger and healthier every day. You are throwing off more and more wastes that would eventually have brought pain, disease, and following through to their successful termination, avoiding some of the worst diseases that would eventually have developed had you continued your careless eating habits.

Do not expect to go on an ascending scale of quality. Do not expect that improving your diet will make you feel better and better each day until you reach perfection. The body is cyclical in nature. And health returns in a series of gradually diminishing cycles. For example, you may start a better diet and for a while you feel much better. After some time, a symptom occurs - you may feel nauseous for a day and have diarrhea with a foul smelling stool. After a day, you feel better than ever before, and all goes fine for a while. Then you suddenly develop a cold, feel chills, and lose your appetite. After about two or three days (assuming you do not take drugs or do anything else about it), you suddenly develop an itch or rash. You still do not take anything special for it. This rash flares up, gets worse, and continues for ten days, and immediately subsides. Immediately after this, you find your hepatitis is gone and your energy has increased more than ever before. The rash became an outlet for the poisons in the liver, which produced the hepatitis. This is how recovery occurs.

You recover and go even higher. And so it goes - each reaction milder than the last as the body becomes purer, each becoming shorter in duration and being followed by a longer and longer period of feeling better than ever before, until you reach a level plateau of vibrant health. Let us give ourselves, through our "healing crisis" a chance to experience what it means to be really healthy and fully alive.

What causes healing crises?
It is caused by the body eliminating toxins from its tissues to prepare the ground for regeneration. Scripturally, you cannot pour new wine into old wine skins. In infectious diseases, it is due to die-offs of bacteria or viruses releasing their endotoxins. The more infected an individual is, the more potent are the endotoxins released into the blood stream for the eliminative channels to handle. This is why a lot of emphasis is placed on opening up the eliminative channels during detoxification. The liver is a store house for the majority of what we ingest. Any de-tox program, like fasting, often leads to the rapid release of stored toxins from the fat tissues and this often leads to healing crises.

What are common symptoms of healing crises?
Body odor and bad breath from the release of poisonous gas and, toxins, diarrhea, cramps, headaches, aches, pains, fatigue, nausea, fever, sinus congestion, skin eruptions, disorientation, sleepiness, shooting pains, muzziness in the head area, dizziness, anxiety, and strong emotions of anger, anxiety, sadness, fear, and depression. Mood swings and suppressed memories arise, too.

How are healing crises addressed?
When healing crises are experienced, it is best to work with an experienced herbalist or alternative healthcare practitioner who can offer assurance and guidance.
• Activate the eliminative channels.
• Drink plenty of fluids, water, and herbal teas to flush the toxins out of the body, preferably 4 – 6 glasses of water daily.
• It is important to follow the healing crises with enemas or colonics to help eliminate toxins.
• Reduction of dosage and/or cessation is recommended
• Massage therapy, acupuncture, and rest help facilitate the process.
• The temptation to take a pain reliever or other such remedies to stop the symptoms defeats the whole purpose of the cleansing and increases the toxic load. It shuts the process down. When this happens, the garbage remains and builds up more firepower to do us harm.
• If pain is too severe, it is recommended to take an analgesic.

After the healing crises, what next?
• Make sure the vacuum created is not filled with old pattern of behaviors. Remember in the Bible when Jesus cast out demons. He warned the people to fill their life with righteousness or else the demons would come back seven times greater to repossess the body.
• It is important to cultivate healthy patterns of living and thinking that befits the exercise.

As you move toward better health with natural healing programs and better nutrition, healing begins to occur. As part of the healing process the body will begin to discard toxic residues which have built up in your body over the years. The healing process usually does not occur without repercussions. During the initial phase of healing, as your body begins to clean house, (detoxify) and your vital energy begins to repair and rebuild internal organs, you may experience headache, uneasiness, flu like symptoms and fatigue. It is important that you adequately rest during this time.

These symptoms will pass as your body begins to normalize to a new level of health. As you continue to improve, you may begin a process called retracing. You may feel worse before you feel better. For example, if you used to get skin rashes, the rashes may reappear or get worse for a period of time as your body eliminates toxins through the skin. You may also experience an initial increase in urination, or you may feel more nervous. In actuality, you are not getting worse, you are actually getting better. Eventually you will reach a plateau of better health. During the healing crisis, it is important to not suppress these temporary symptoms with drugs or the healing process may become interrupted.

Understanding The Healing Crisis  .Ginger Chalford, Ph.D

The body has an inherent desire for perfect health. We have the ability to earn our way back to that state, no matter how "normal" or bad our health is now. But in the meantime, the body must go through an elimination process to achieve good health. The elimination process is often referred to as the "healing crisis." Once the healing crisis starts, reactions may be mild or severe. Expect ups and downs as it takes awhile to get good health back.

In a healing crisis, every body system works together to eliminate waste products and set the stage for regeneration. Old tissues are replaced with new. A disease occurs when the body cannot make it through its natural healing crises for one reason or another. The body is "locked" into a destructive and shut down place, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

Symptoms of the healing crisis may at first be identical to the disease it is meant to heal. But there is an important difference: elimination. A cleansing, purifying process is underway and stored wastes are in a free-flowing state. The body, mind, and spirit are no longer "locked." Sometimes pain and symptoms during the healing crisis are more intense than that of the chronic disease, but it is temporary and necessary.

The crisis will usually bring about past conditions and personal issues. People often forget the diseases, issues, or injuries they have had in the past, but are usually reminded during the crisis so that they can heal their unfinished business. This arises in whatever order the body is capable of handling at that time.

Physical reactions could include skin eruptions, nausea, headache, sleepiness, unusual fatigue, constipation, diarrhea, head or chest cold, ear infections, boils, or any other way the body uses to loosen and eliminate toxins. An initial healing crisis usually lasts around three days but if the energy of the patient is low, it may last a week or more.

Your body needs juices, and especially water to help carry off the toxins. This is a time for rest. Be kind to yourself --- mentally, emotionally, and of course physically.

One crisis is not always enough for a complete cure. The person in a chronic "locked" disease state will often have to go through cycles of healing crises, with each one improving the condition some. It has taken time to develop a chronically diseased state, and time is required to let go of the "locked" energy, piece by piece. It's like peeling the layers off an onion.

Often the crisis will come after one feels their very best and most energized, setting the stage for the elimination. The whole body gets into action. Most people feel an energy boost at the beginning until the toxins start dumping into the blood stream for elimination. Go as slowly as your body needs so your elimination is gradual and comfortable.

With a more serious condition, there may be many small crisis to go through before the system can become healthily balanced. Everything must be considered and given its proper place in the build-up to a healing crisis. One should expect it and work with the body, not resentfully against it.

Hering’s Law of Cure

Constantine Hering, M.D. (1800-1880) observed that healing occurs in a consistent pattern. He described this pattern in the form of three basic laws which homeopaths can use to recognize that healing is occurring. This pattern has been recognized by acupuncturists for hundreds of years and is also used by practitioners of herbalism and other healing disciplines.

  • According to the first of Hering's laws, healing progresses from the deepest part of the organism - the mental and emotional levels and the vital organs - to the external parts, such as skin and extremities.
  • Hering's second law states that, as healing progresses, symptoms appear and disappear in the reverse of their original chronological order of appearance. Homeopaths have consistently observed that their patients re-experience symptoms from past conditions.
  • According to Hering's third law, healing progresses from the upper to the lower parts of the body. For instance, a person is considered to be on the mend if the arthritic pain in his neck has decreased although he now has pain in his finger joints.

  • As the symptoms change in accordance with Hering's Law, it is common for individual symptoms to become worse than they had been before treatment. If healing is truly in progress, the patient feels stronger and generally better in spite of the aggravation. Before long, the symptoms of the aggravation pass, and leave the person healthier on all levels.

Sadly, most conventional medical doctors treat each symptom as a unique and unconnected phenomenon. A person's skin rash generally would be treated with cortisone, thus suppressing it,and, possibly, reactivating the person's asthma. The mentally ill person's new physical symptom is also suppressed, leading to a relapse of the mental illness.

    Physiological Reactions
    By H. Reg McDaniel, MD

As you begin to change your diet and supplement your diet with our exclusive health-building products, positive changes begin to happen within your body. The ideal reaction is the gradual development of an increased sense of well-being. At first you will notice that you do not tire so easily. You will have more sustained energy during the day, and you will not become tired so early in the evening. As sense of well-being increases, you may begin to feel more emotionally and psychologically secure. Little things do not bother you as they once did. Your old patterns will begin to change from "grumpy" ones to "happy" ones. However, in a significant minority, a number of uncomfortable reactions may occur as you begin to physiologically balance your body chemistry and revitalize your immune system through the support of cellular communication. It is not easy for your body to adjust overnight to a long history of inappropriate diet.

The longer the deficiencies have existed, the more prevalent the response is likely to be. Corrective responses that may occur are associated with: fever, rash or hives, excessive gas, runny nose, headaches, insomnia, increased thirst, weakness, lethargy, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea, fever blisters, dry mouth, canker sores, constipation, dizziness, nervousness, and various body aches and pains in joints and muscles. When these reactions occur, you can be assured your body is making positive changes toward an improved state of health. If you recognize these as the cleansing response, it will be easier to accept them as steps on the road to better health. These conditions are a small price to pay for long-lasting benefits.

    Reasons for Reactions

Immune Response When your body is exposed to long periods of emotional, physical and environmental stress (heavy metal, petrochemical, other chemical exposures) combined with an inappropriate diet, your natural defense system can become compromised and less efficient. When the immune system is restored, the reactions may come in the form of flu-like symptoms.

    Toxic Dump

The human body has an amazing cleansing system for eliminating toxins that accumulate in the body. This system can also become inefficient and allow toxins to build up and be stored, especially in body fat, rather than be eliminated. Once this natural cleansing system begins to work more efficiently, reactions can occur. These reactions result from the stored toxins begin released faster than the liver, kidneys, skin and lungs can remove them from the body. These reactions can include loss of appetite, nausea, headaches and swelling in various lymph glands throughout the body.

    Allergic-Type Reactions

These reactions can be caused by a deficiency of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and/or by dysfunctional or exhausted liver and adrenal glands. An allergic-type reaction can include skin rashes and shortness of breath.

    What To Do

    1. Attempt to drink at least one half your body weight in ounces of water, or a combination of fruit and vegetable juices, per day. This will help flush out the toxins and support the cleansing of the kidneys. 2. Increase your intake of fruits, vegetables, and bran from cereals. This can help accelerate the removal of toxins of any type. 3. Include an activity component in your daily routine. Walking for 15 minutes is a good place to start. Exercise is another good way to support detoxification.

If the reaction is too strong for you to tolerate, you can reduce or even discontinue the supplements for a couple of days, and then gradually build back up to the recommended amounts. ? This routine may need to be repeated, depending on the depleted condition of your body and the amount of repair needed at the cellular level.

    What is Dis-ease?

Dis-ease simply means life “without ease,” the inability to overcome harmful influences in our life. It doesn’t matter what your culture is. Dis-ease is the result of imbalance. Good health is a balance of body, mind, and spirit. In our society, people of all ages are at risk for the development of health-related problems. Most illness is caused by an accumulation of lifestyle and environmental factors that build up over the years. They attack our immune system, and we develop dis-ease. Some of these factors arise from toxins, distress, and the lack of life energy.

Toxic overload: Chemicals such as pesticides on our food crops, toxic waste, and antibiotics given to farm animals each year to increase their weight are passed on to us as consumers. Many of them are carcinogenic. All of these cause damage to DNA and damage our immune systems. Physical stress is a result of poor nutrition plus exposure to toxins in our diet or the world around us.

Distress: Emotional stress can also depress our immune system and make us more vulnerable to infections and dis-ease. Stress comes to us in many ways—financial state, family matters, past abuse, death, marriage, personal injury or illness, foreclosure, bankruptcy, child issues, even being in jail or anything else that creates a disturbance to our physical and emotional selves. Prolonged stress places a load on many organ systems, especially the heart, blood vessels, adrenals, and immune system.

Unbalanced energy: Electrical currents flow through the nervous system and help our body regulate itself. The nervous system is connected to every organ and tissue in our body. Signals flow through the nerves from the brain to regulate all of our bodily activities. As long as something is alive, it has life energy circulating through it and surrounding it, but when it dies, the energy is gone. If your life energy is low, or if there is a restriction in its flow, you are more vulnerable to illness and dis-ease. When it is high and flowing freely, you are less likely to get sick.

Toxic overload can be corrected by detoxification. The management and elimination of physical and emotional stress in your life will strengthen and balance your immune system. It is vital to take responsibility for your health by making life style changes.

The holistic approach to dis-ease involves finding the cause of illness and seeking the type of treatment that is appropriate for the condition. In treating dis-ease, complementary and alternative therapies are not substitutes for conventional medical care; they are used to help alleviate stress, reduce pain and anxiety, manage symptoms, and promote a feeling of well-being.

Today, many doctors agree that it takes more than drugs or surgery to cope with persistent dis-ease or stress-related ailments, therefore, holistic healthcare is becoming popular throughout the United States as it has been in other countries for centuries.

According to Shé D'Montford, Shambhallah, from Australia ‘The human body "WILL HEAL"... If we get out of our own way and allow it, it heals itself. It is our basic nature. Anybody who tells you other than that is trying to sell you something. No matter what you have been told. Don't give up on yourself and don't buy into the lines like ... ‘oh well you've had a good life'... 'at your age'... and the worst of all ...'there's nothing further I can do, I suggest you finalize your affairs'... How dare anyone tell you to give up! So much in society combines to convince us of the propaganda that some things never get better. It's up to you ... do you want to get better? Make things better? It is human nature to make things better, evolve and grow.”
